Almost 90 per cent of Romanian voters approved changing their constitution to bring it closer to European Union law in a weekend referendum.
Final results, with all polling stations counted, showed 89.70 per cent of voters cast a "yes" ballot, 8.81 per cent rejected the reforms and 1.49 per cent of votes were invalid.
Turnout was 55.7 per cent - over the 50 per cent margin required to validate the referendum.
