Romanian winger Gabriel Brezoianu will play against Ireland at Gosford on Saturday after coming through a fitness test on his injured ankle.

Brezoianu had been expected to miss the game after hurting himself during training on Thursday.

However, Romania's top try scorer has been cleared to play, boosting the Eastern European's chances of giving Ireland a competitive game.

Romania will be skippered by Aurillac centre Romeo Gontineac, but seem unlikely to cause a shock in the toughest pool of the competition.

"It will be a very tough game but we have a lot to prove," said Romanian coach Bernard Charreyre. "We must show the rugby world that Romania can still play to a decent standard, that Romanian rugby is still alive."
