US forces returnedfire after six rockets landed near their base in southeasternAfghanistan early today.
US military spokesman Colonel Rodney Davis said the rockets landed near the USbase at Shkin in Paktika province but caused no casualties.
"Coalition forces responded with counter-fire to suppresshostilities," he told a news briefing at US militaryheadquarters at Bagram air base north of Kabul.
Davis said there were no injuries to US soldiers ordamage reported and the suspected launch sites were beinginvestigated.
He did not say who might have carried out the attack, butthe US military has blamed similar incidents in the past onremnants of the Taliban regime, ousted in late 2001, and theiral Qaeda allies.
About 20 months since a U.S.-led coalition overthrew theTaliban, U.S. bases still come under almost daily rocketattack, but the missiles rarely hit their targets or causedamage.
About 12,500 U.S.-led foreign troops are in Afghanistanhunting Taliban and al Qaeda remnants.
