Deaths on Irish roads to date this April are down on last year's figures in what is the eighth consecutive month of decline.
Fatalities on Irish roads are down 37 this year to date, standing at 92, compared with 129 this time last year. This continued decline has been attributed mainly to the penalty points system introduced last October.
So far this April, 17 people have been killed in road traffic incidents - five of them in the past seven days.
This week's Garda figures represent a continuation of a trend that saw Irish annual road deaths fall beneath 400 for the first time in 15 years.
