A record 1.8 billion text messages were sent in the UK last month, according to new figures.
The figures, restricted to person-to-person texts sent across the four GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) networks, equate to an average of 58.5 million texts a day.It is the highest monthly total since the Mobile Data Association (MDA) began collecting the figures in 1998.The 16.8 billion text messages sent from January to October already top the 2002 total of 16 billion texts. The MDA forecast the total for this year will reach 20 billion.
