Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri made it clear that there is no rift between him and winger Damien Duff, who last week revealed his frustration at being substituted before the end of each game.
The Blues' manager also challenged his players to show the "intelligence" to cope with his rotation policy as he admitted that it could cause some unhappiness in his squad
The Chelsea boss is attempting to keep his players happy by making sweeping changes between matches, with up to seven new players coming into the side on each occasion. He admitted: "I have spoken with my players and they have understood everything. I don't necessarily want players to be happy if they don't play, I want intelligent players.
"They must think that although they don't play in this match, they could have an opportunity in the next game. This is my philosophy," he stated.
Duff was initially left on the bench for last week's Champions League tie away to Sparta Prague, sparking suggestions that he may have paid the price for speaking out. However, the Irishman was brought on at half-time and also played the entire 90 minutes against Wolves in last weekend's 5-0 victory, scoring his first goal for his new club.
Ranieri told Chelsea TV: "Damien is fantastic, he is a tremendous player. After the Sparta game, I told him he had wanted to finish the match and that was exactly what he had done. At Wolves, he was also near to the bench with 15 to 20 minutes to go and I asked him `do you want to finish the match'? He said yes, so I told him to show me something."
