Kuala Lumpur - The wife of Malyasia's self-styled "reformasi" leader, Mr Anwar Ibrahim, was questioned by police for several hours yesterday as investigators continued their crackdown on dissenters opposed to the government. Later, one of the Anwar children was rushed to hospital with suspected viral fever.

Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (46) went to police headquarters to explain why she had told newspapers she feared for the safety of her husband, the former deputy prime minister, who was arrested on Sunday night.

Dr Azizah had told the media her husband might be injected with the HIV virus in custody. She is also being investigated over her involvement with Mr Anwar's movement and it is thought she was questioned over her participation in a weekend rally which ended in a riot outside the residence of the Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
