Ploughing championships to attract thousands

Up to 130,000 people are expected to descend on Co Meath today for the start of the National Ploughing Championships.

One of the biggest events of the year in rural Ireland, this year's event take place in Ballinabrackey,Kinnegad, Co Meath, and will be co-hosted by father and son Mr Peter and Mark Moore and neighbour Mr George Cave.

The ploughing championship also hosts Ireland's largest agricultural trade show as well as a food market and exhibitions of vintage cars and farm equipment.

Today's programme includes the first qualification round for the Irish team that will compete in the world ploughing championships due to be held in Ballkelly, Co Derry, next year.
