Superquinn chief executive Senator Feargal Quinn and his wife, Denise, have lost their challenge to planning permission granted by Fingal County Council to demolish and rebuild a 1930s dormer bungalow to the east of their property on Ceanchor Road in Howth, Co Dublin.

The Quinns appealed the planning permission to An Bord Pleanála on the grounds that their privacy would be affected by a first floor balcony.

Maple Realty Ltd, whose directors are Ms Cora Crampton, Mr Edmund Butler and Mr Laurence Shields, were granted planning permission to build a three-storey house with a swimming pool, sauna and gym.

A neighbour who owns the property on the adjoining side to the east, Ms Christine Wallace, also appealed the planning permission.

An Bord Pleanála found in both cases that the proposed house would not result in a loss of privacy. Planning permission was granted with eight conditions, including extra tree planting.
