Israeli troops shot dead an 11-year-old Palestinian boy who was throwing stones at them in the West Bank city of Jenin, Palestinian sources said today.
Israeli military sources said soldiers fired at an armed man inside a stone-throwing crowd who had fired shots at them. "The connection between this event and the report of the boy's death is being checked and investigated," the sources said.
About 300 people at the mosque to which the body was carried called for revenge by the armed Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades group.
Violence also flared in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian who military sources claimed was planting a bomb near the northern border with Israel.
Soldiers later found a 20 kilo bomb nearby, the sources said.
Local Palestinian sources identified the dead man as a member of the militant Islamic group Hamas.
