THE Minister for Justice yesterday signed the Circuit Court Rules through which people will be able to apply for a divorce under the Family Law (Divorce) Act 1996.

The rules, which will run to about 50 pages, were described as "comprehensive" by a Department of Justice spokeswoman. The rules will now be presented to the Oireachtas, where they are expected to be passed in a day, before the Act comes into effect on February 27th.

Mrs Owen also signed the rules for Circuit Court applications under the Judicial Separation and Family Law Reform Act 1989 and the Family Law Act 1995, both of which are affected by Divorce Act procedures.

The rules will be available from the Government Publications Office, Molesworth Street, Dublin from tomorrow.
