TERRY Flanagan's retrospective exhibition at the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art in Dublin was opened by his old friend Seamus Heaney, who flew in from New York for the occasion. When the show first opened in Belfast before Christmas, Seamus also did the honours as Terry pointed out "You can't follow Seamus Heaney with anyone but Seamus Heaney".

The two have been friends for more than 30 years, which is reflected in the holiday snaps included in the show's unusually personal catalogue. Describing the friendship, Terry says: "We have a friendship that's close but not suffocating".
