Northern Ireland information technology company SX3, which employs 1,400 in the UK and Ireland, announced today it was making workers redundant.

The company which has bases in Dublin, Manchester and Edinburgh and a major base at Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, said it would be reducing staff at a number of the sites.

It gave no detail of numbers - thought not to be too extensive - but said the move was part of an overall package of cost reductions. A statement said the company intended to achieve the redundancies through voluntary measures.

"In line with other businesses in the IT sector, SX3 is facing pressure on costs and the company has experienced a slower conversion of orders into revenue.
