Nissan to recall 2.5 million cars for engine fault

JAPAN: Car manufacturer Nissan announced yesterday it is recalling more than 2.5 million models worldwide.

JAPAN: Car manufacturer Nissan announced yesterday it is recalling more than 2.5 million models worldwide.

Models affected include the Primera and Almera which are built at the Japanese giant's UK plant outside Sunderland. The other models are the X-Trail and Almera Tino. A spokesman said the fault was with sensors in the engine - they could malfunction, causing it to stall or preventing it from starting.

The recall is the biggest ever by the company. It affects 273,747 Almeras built on Wearside and some 148,173 Primeras.

A further 49,775 Almera Tinos and 20,225 X-Trails in the European market were affected.Nissan dealers will replace the affected sensors at no cost, the repair taking less than an hour.
