The umbrella Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will not go back on its resolution to stage a general strike from Thursday in protest at the government's fuel price policy, its leader said today.

NLC President Adams Oshiomhole told the leadership of the upper-house senate that the strike would go ahead unless President Olusegun Obasanjo reversed his decision to deregulate fuel marketing in the world's eighth biggest oil exporter.

"The executive and the president are taking every Nigerian for a ride, and with due respect, we are not going back on our resolution until the situation is reversed," Mr Oshiomhole told Senate President Adolphus Wabara at a meeting in Abuja.
