The Court of Criminal Appeal has rejected an application by lawyers acting for Catherine Nevin to allow them bring a point of law before the Supreme Court.

The point of law related to the extensive publicity accorded to the Nevin case and also to issues concerning whether journalists are required to reveal their sources of information.
The three-judge court unanimously rejected the application.
Nevin (52) is serving a life sentence for the murder of her husband Tom at their pub, Jack White's Inn, in Co Wicklow on March 19th, 1996. She was also convicted in 2000 on three counts of soliciting three different men to murder her husband in 1989 and 1990, for which she received three seven-year sentences.
The Court of Criminal Appeal rejected another appeal by Nevin earlier this year, holding held she had received "an exceptionally fair trial in very difficult circumstances". The court stated the 42-day trial was "impeccably conducted" by the trial judge, Ms Justice Carroll.
