Hundreds of people went to the Inishowen Maritime Museum in Greencastle, Co Donegal, yesterday to watch a unique rocket show hosted by a US-born laser physicist.
More than a dozen rockets of various sizes, designed and built by Mr Ashleigh McFadden, were launched into the skies over the river Foyle in an event organised to popularise science education.
"I've been doing this for over 40 years now and I love it," said Mr McFadden.
"I'm a 55-year-old laser physicist and planetarian who has never really grown up. These rockets are big, they're six feet tall. The rockets reach an altitude of 1,500 ft and travel at 400 miles per hour," according to Mr McFadden.
"I want to popularise science education by showing people just what science can do," the physicist added.
