A man already in custody on a murder charge appeared in a Belfast court today accused of attempted murder and membership of the outlawed Red Hand Defenders.

Mr William Alan Hill (20), from Southport Court, Belfast, was charged with attempting to murder three people in a bomb attack at the advice centre run by the SDLP's Mr Alban Maguinness on the Antrim Road in January, 2001.

The three were attending a meeting of the Down and Connor Scouting Association, which has an office in the same building.

The membership charge related to an alleged phone call claiming responsibility for a pipe bomb found at the Rathcoole home of John Gregg who was later murdered during the loyalist feud.

The bomb was found on December 22nd last year - the same day that army cook David Cupples was attacked on his way to Girdwood Army Barracks and died on Christmas Day.

Mr Hill was charged last January with murdering Mr Cupples and yesterday he was remanded in custody until Monday to coincide with a video remand on the murder charge.
