A severe weather warning was issued by the National Safety Council this aftenoon after Met Eireann forecast rainfall of between 30 and 50 mm in some parts of the country.
According to forecasters, the heaviest period of rain is likely to be between midnight tonight and tomorrow afternoon.
The rain will cause reduced visibility, flooding and slippery road surfaces making driving particularly hazardous.
Drivers are being advised by the NSC to:
- Slow Down
- Allow extra distance to the vehicle in front especially when driving behind heavy goods vehicles.
- Use dipped headlights at all times of poor visibility.
- Check tyres to ensure minimum tread depth of 1.6 mm and ensure correct tyre pressures.
