Colin Montgomerie has picked his fellow Scot and former Ryder Cup partner Paul Lawrie as his wild card for next week's Seve Trophy match - Continental Europe against Britain and Ireland - at El Saler in Spain.
"I'm delighted to have the option to pick a major winner and Ryder Cup player to strengthen an already strong-looking team," said Montgomerie of Lawrie, who was the expected choice.
In the previous matches, Montgomerie has gone for the next-highest player on the world rankings once his automatic qualifiers were known - and with Nick Faldo declaring himself unavailable because of a commitment in Portugal, the 1999 Open champion was next.
In Boston four years ago Montgomerie and Lawrie won two, halved one and lost one as partners against the Americans.
European captain Seve Ballesteros last night selected his old Ryder Cup partner Jose Maria Olazabal as his wild card.
Swindon's David Howell, who missed the last Seve Trophy match two years ago after breaking his arm in a fall while jogging, failed to qualify this time but could yet come in for Darren Clarke.
The Ulsterman is waiting to see if he has qualified for the US Tour's Tour Championship. He has to be among the US Tour's top 30 money-winners for that and is currently 25th with one week to go.
