Colin Montgomerie maintained his record of winning at least one tournament every year since 1993 with a play-off victory in the Macau Open today.

The Scot beat Australian Scott Barr at the first hole of a sudden death play-off with a birdie four.

The pair had tied on 11-under-par 273 after Montgomerie carded a final round 68 to catch Barr.

"That is my ninth play-off and I have only won two of them, my other one was at Sun City against Ernie Els of all people," Montgomerie said.

"I have kept the (winning) streak alive. I am leaving it later and later, it's getting difficult. I am leaving it too late. October is too late. I would rather win in January."

Montgomerie has lost two play-offs for major titles, the 1994 US Open won by Els, and the 1995 US PGA Championship clinched by Australian Steve Elkington.
