The FIA, the governing body of world motorsport, has confirmed the first FIA Sportscars Championship race to take place in Ireland.
The main feature race starts at 5.30 p.m. in Mondello Park in Kildare this Saturday.
"This is a significant step forward for the circuit," said chief executive of Mondello Park Steve Lydon.
"The opportunity to run a full FIA championship marks a turning point for Mondello and places it once and for all on the world wide motorsport map. We fully anticipate many more exciting series and championships to be visiting the circuit in the future".
The event will be previewed this Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in St Stephen's Green, with some of the world’s fastest sports cars going on show.
Over 50 drivers will then take part in the gruelling two-and-a-half hour race, which starts at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday.
Irish interest will focus on Warren Carway who will challenge in the SR2 class and Damien Faulkner, Ireland’s top motorsport driver, once his entry is confirmed.
