Tax cuts could jeopardise the provision of funds for programmes to tackle violence against women, the Minister of State at the Office of the Tanaiste, Ms Eithne Fitzgerald, has said.

"I hope we do not get caught up in competing promises to reduce tax at the expense of making resources available to people who cannot speak for themselves," she said.

She said she wanted all election candidates to commit themselves to implementation of the report of the Government's Task Force on Violence Against Women.
