Celtic struck twice in eight second-half minutes to overpower French champions Olympique Lyon 2-0 with a polished display in the Champions League tonight.
Headed goals from Republic of Ireland under-21 international Liam Miller (70) and Chris Sutton (78), after superb crosses from Henrik Larsson, gave the home side a deserved Group A victory after they had dominated the clash in front of a 58,000 Celtic Park crowd.
Alan Thompson had a penalty saved by Gregory Coupet at the end of the first half but the Glasgow side remained on top after the break and deservedly picked up their first win in the group after a 2-1 defeat at Bayern Munich in their opening match.
Celtic face Belgian side Anderlecht on October 21st and will travel with confidence after their efforts tonight.
In the other Group A game, substitute Roque Santa Cruz headed a late equaliser to give 10-man Bayern Munich a 1-1 draw away to Anderlecht.
The German champions were a man short for 55 minutes after Claudio Pizarro committed two bookable offences in the space of one minute and was sent off.
Ivica Mornar struck in the 53rd to put the Belgian side ahead, side-footing the ball into the net from close range.
But Santa Cruz and his fellow substitute Hasan Salihamidzic combined in the 74th minute to grab a point for Bayern.
Elsewhere, a last-minute header from substitute Christian Vieri gave Inter Milan a dramatic 2-1 win over Dynamo Kiev.
Inter had taken a 23rd-minute lead through Daniele Adani, who fired home after a Fabio Cannavaro header was parried by Dynamo keeper Olexander Shovkovsky.
But the Ukrainians drew level 11 minutes later when Inter keeper Francesco Toldo failed to hold a harmless cross from Tiberiu Ghioane's and Serhiy Fyodorov reacted quickly to drive the ball into the unguarded goal.
But in the final minute, Vieri, returning after three weeks out with injury, rose to glance home a Kily Gonzalez free-kick to give Inter maximum points from their opening two games and top spot in the group.
A double strike from Pavel Nedved gave Juventus a 2-1 Group D win at Olympiakos while Galatasaray went down 2-1 at home to Real Sociedad.
In Group C, a deflected Sergio free kick and a Walter Pandiani penalty earned Deportivo Coruna a 2-0 win at home to PSV Eindhoven while Fernando Morientes struck twice to inspire Monaco to a comfortable 4-0 victory over AEK Athens.
