Former Liverpool and England star Steve McManaman is in talks with Everton manager David Moyes over a return to the Premiership, according to reports today.

McManaman, a boyhood Everton fan, has been on the fringe of first team activity at Real Madrid for some time now and is becoming increasingly isolated since the arrival of England captain David Beckham at the Bernabeu.

Real coach Carlos Queiroz today confirmed that the midfielder is in talks with a club though he did not confirm that it was Everton.

"I know he is talking to a club and it is better for him and for us that it is sorted out in the next 48 hours," Queiroz told the Sun.

McManaman moved to Real Madrid in 1999 on a free transfer from Liverpool and is earning about £3 million per year. It is believed that Everton are looking to sign the player on a two-year deal.

If an agreement is to be made it must be done before the transfer deadline on Sunday the 31st of August.
