Details of a new training course in boxing for young people North and South were announced yesterday.
There has been a surge of interest in taking up boxing after the Irish success in the Olympics led by stars such as Katie Taylor and John Joe Nevin.
This was underlined yesterday when details were announced of an eight-week training programme for young boxers which has been split between the towns of Monaghan and Carrickmacross.
Described as the “Barry McGuigan Boxing Academy” the programme, which is funded under the EU Peace III Partnership, will combine education and sport, and is aimed at all members of the community.
