Dubliner Paul McGinley is two shots off the lead after today’s second round of the Omega Hong Kong Open in Fanling.
A first-round 65 left him just one shot off the lead, and a second-round 66 this morning gave the 34-year-old from Dublin an 11-under-par halfway total of 131.
Taiwan's Wei-Tze Yeh led the leaderboard on 13 under after a second-round 63, one shot outside the course record, with Zaw Moe from Myanmar in second one shot behind.
McGinley is tied for third along with Australian Adam Scott and Swedish pair Carl Pettersson and Anders Forsbrand.
"Again I made my score on the par fives, four under for them, and one under for the rest," said McGinley. "I'm hitting them in two and it makes a huge difference. That's the reason, I'm playing steady, nothing special and the par fives are helping me out.
"I'm very surprised, particularly with the greens, because I putted atrociously last week in Japan on similar greens so maybe I've learnt something last week," he said.
"The scoring is going to be really hot on the weekend and it's going to be better than 20-under-par the winning score," McGinley said.
"I don't know if I can find the extra gears this weekend to keep in contention but if you asked me at the start of the week would I be 11 under after two rounds I would have said no".
