Down's Greg McCartan will discover his fate on Thursday following a personal hearing before the Games Administration Committee.
McCartan was shown a straight red-card during Sunday's drawn Ulster football final with Tyrone after throwing the ball into the face of opponent Brian McGuigan.
McGuigan had appeared to trip the influential midfielder immediately prior to the incident but received no punishment from Kerry referee Aidan Mangan. Mangan has since reported McCartan for dangerous play.
Down officials are adamant the punishment did not fit the crime and will attempt to have the red-card rescinded at Thursday's hearing, clearing McCartan to play in this weekend's replay in Clones. A failure to do so is likely to result in a mandatory four-week ban for the player.
