250-miles plus in weekend...
Tony Mangan (46) from the Liberties in Dublin hoped he had entered the Guinness Book of Records when he finished the marathon yesterday, having run almost nine marathons before the race.
He ran 231.2 miles on a treadmill over the weekend, hoping to break two records for the longest distance run on a treadmill in a 24-hour and 48-hour period. He took on the challenge to raise money for Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin.
"I feel pleasantly tired, ecstatic," he said afterwards. "The crowd lifted me. I couldn't believe so many people recognised me out on the course."
Yesterday's run was "definitely the slowest marathon of my life but certainly the happiest," he said.
This extreme running is nothing new to Mr Mangan, who ran the Dublin City Marathon twice on the same day last year. He started his first marathon at 4.30 a.m. and then joined the crowd for his second marathon.
