A man appeared in court yesterday charged in connection with the death of his homeless uncle, whose body was found in Sallynoggin, Co Dublin, at the weekend.

Mr Mark Bissett (18), Loughlinstown Park, Co Dublin, was charged with assault causing harm to Mr David Sutherland.

In Dublin District Court yesterday, Det Sgt James Martin said Mr Bissett was charged on Monday at Dún Laoghaire Garda Station. In reply, he had said: "Sorry, I didn't mean it."

The court heard he was initially arrested at 11.55 p.m. on Sunday and held until 5.24 p.m. the next day when he was released and charged.

The detective applied for a remand in custody because there were three warrants out for his arrest. He also asked that the name on the charge sheet be amended from Mark Haines to Mark Bissett.

Defence solicitor, Mr John Quinn, said there was no application for bail at this time. Judge Seán MacBride remanded Mr Bissett in custody to Cloverhill District Court on December 30th.
