Leeds striker Alan Smith will request a personal hearing with the Football Association to defend himself against a charge of improper conduct.
Smith was charged earlier today over a bottle-throwing incident during the game with Manchester United at Elland Road last month.
And the club tonight revealed they would give the player their full backing when his hearing is held.
"The matter has been reviewed and we can confirm that he is requesting a personal hearing at the FA and is in the process of taking legal advice," a Leeds statement read.
"In view of the fact that the hearing is now pending, the club does not feel it appropriate to comment further at this stage other than to say it will be supporting the player at the hearing."
Smith was seen to throw a plastic bottle back into the crowd during Leeds' 3-2 defeat by United in the Carling Cup tie on October 28th.
He was arrested by police over the incident but later released without charge.
The player has until December 9th to formally respond, although his club's statement indicates he will vehemently contest the accusation.
