Dublin 1-09 Laois 2-10
Laois today won the All-Ireland Minor Football Final at the second time of asking against Dublin.
Having seen their efforts spoiled on two previous occasions, Laois finally got the better of the Leinster champions in the final replay at Dr Cullen Park in Carlow this afternoon.
In a closely fought contest, it was a superior second half effort which ensured Laois's four point winning margin.
Dublin's Barry Kennedy scored the first point of the game but that was soon cancelled out by a goal from Laois full forward Donie Brennan in the fifth minute.
The Dubs responded with three quick points in succession with a brace from Kevin Leahy and a third from Mark Vaughan.
The side were level for much of the first half but a Michael Tierney from a free in injury time gave Laois a narrow one point lead 1-4 to 0-6 at the interval.
The O'Moores came out more determined after the break and within a minute of the restart had earned a penalty when Brennan was brought down.
The shot, by Stadbally's Colm Kelly, was saved by Kieran Walsh, but Tierney pointed the resulting 45 before Brennan made it 1-6 to 0-6.
Leahy managed to pull a point back for Dublin, but when St Joseph's Colm Kelly drilled home a shot to extend Laois' lead to six points, the game seemed over.
James Brogan pulled back a goal for Dublin just before the end of normal time, but it was too late to make a difference.
