Kilkenny 2-13 Galway 0-12
The icing on a spectacular year for Kilkenny hurling has been provided by the county's under-21 hurlers, who soundly defeated Galway in Semple Stadium this afternoon.
On a rain sodden afternoon in Thurles, Martin Fogarty's charges eased to a seven point victory against a Galway side who put it up to them in the early stages. Indeed, the Tribesmen built up a steady momentum, leading by a point until to the crucial strike of the first half was provided in the form of a Martin Fogarty strike.
A second goal in the opening minute of the second half from man of the match Conor Phelan kickstarted the surge which saw the Cats point well ahead of Galway. Points from Peter Cleere, Tommy Walsh and another couple from Phelan were enough to put the game well beyond the Tribesmen's reach, and ensure that the treble went Noreside.
For Galway, today's defeat represents the county's sixth defeat since they last won at under-21 level in 1996.
