Kilkenny dominate All-Star nominations

All-Ireland champions Kilkenny today received 12 nominations for this year's Vodafone Hurling All Star awards.

All-Ireland champions Kilkenny today received 12 nominations for this year's Vodafone Hurling All Star awards.

Brian Cody's side collected five awards last year when Michael Kavanagh, Peter Barry, Derek Lyng, Henry Shefflin and Martin Comerford were named on the 2002 team.

The same five players are once again in contention along with goalkeeper James McGarry, defenders Noel Hickey, Sean Dowling and JJ Delaney, midfielder Tommy Walsh and forwards John Hoyne and Eddie Brennan.

Kilkenny captain DJ Carey has not been nominated.

Tipperary brothers Paul and Eoin Kelly and Clare's Colin Lynch are the three other current All Stars put forward for honours once again.

Beaten All-Ireland finalists Cork have 10 nominations, Wexford 7, Tipperary 5, Offaly 4, Waterford 2, Dublin 2, Galway 1, Clare 1 and Antrim 1.

The football nominees will be named tomorrow evening. The final selections in both codes will be announced on November 28th.
