Georgina Ahern, the Taoiseach's daughter, and Nicky Byrne of the Westlife boy band, were married today in the Church of St Peter and St Paul, in the village of Gallardon, France.

In a statement released this afternoon, the couple thanked their family, friends and fans for their support and good wishes.

This afternoon's ceremony has been shrouded in secrecy and surrounded by tight security. Following the ceremony the 400 lucky guests are being treated to a lavish reception at the nearby Château d'Esclimont.

The choice of location suited the need for secrecy and the centre of town has been sealed off, reportedly to the apparent chagrin of local shopkeepers.
