Ireland won their way into the play-off for ninth place in the men's European Nations Cup with a 5-2 win over Switzerland in Barcelona today.
Justin Sherriff (Pembroke Wanderers) took his tally to six for the tournament by scoring twice for Ireland. He opened his account after seven minutes by converting a penalty corner.
Mark Irwin (Instonians), who also scored twice, added a second for Ireland before Oliver Bilgerig pulled one back for the Swiss just before half-time.
Things didn't go Ireland's way after the re-start with Thierry Grandchamp levelling the game from a set-piece four minutes into the second half.
However, Ireland stepped up a gear and eventually the pressure paid- off when Chris Jackson (Annadale) got on the score-sheet while Irwin secured his second for a 4-2 lead.
Sherriff, Ireland's top scorer, got his second 10 minutes from time to round-off a good afternoon's work and Ireland will now meet Italy in the play-off.
