Indian police say they have shot dead the mastermind behind last month's twin bomb blasts in Bombay.

"Two persons were shot dead by the police. One of them was Nasir, the mastermind behind the bomb blasts," Satya Pal Singh, joint commissioner of Bombay police, told journalists. There were no more details given of the alleged bomber.

The official said the two were killed today in an encounter in Bombay's northwest suburb of Matunga.

Fifty-two people were killed and over 150 injured in twin car bombings that shook India's financial capital on August 25.
