Ten people have been jailed for up to 14 days for refusing to undertake not to break an injunction preventing them from interfering with bin collections.
At the High Court this morning, Ms Justice Mella Carroll jailed the ten after they broke an injunction filed by Dublin County Council to prevent them from obstructing bin lorries.
Those sent to Mountjoy Prison include five women: Noreen Bradley; Anna Doran; Kay Conlon; Bernie Hughes; and Lisa Carroll.
Five men were also jailed: John O'Neill, Declan Mahon, Dermot Connolly, Colm Breathnach, and Noel Kelly.
Carroll was jailed for seven days after the court heard she was still breastfeeding her child. All the others were given 14 days.
Two women, Ms Maureen Maher and Ms Hanna Moore, apologised to the court this morning and pledged not to disrupt any more bin collections. Yesterday 13 other protestors apologised and were excused by the court.
Socialist Party TD, Mr Joe Higgins, and his colleague, Cllr Clare Daly, were sent to Mountjoy Prison for a month on September 19th for defying a High Court injunction prohibiting them from obstructing refuse collections in Dublin.
Protests against bin charges in the Fingal Co Council area began early last month when the local authority decided to stop collecting bins from residents who have not paid the charge.
