After a two-hour frost delay Padraig Harrington made a mess of his opportunity to close in on overnight leader Paul Casey today.
Harrington resumed in joint third place on six under par, but the third hole of his second round - actually the 445-yard 12th - brought a double bogey six.
After hooking his drive into the trees the Dubliner, twice a winner at Club de Campo, had to play out sideways, but the shot went across the fairway into rough the other side.
From there he found a greenside bunker and after leaving his recovery short he two-putted and fell four behind Casey, who was having to wait until mid-afternoon to tee-off again and was not certain to finish before darkness.
Sergio Garcia, second after his opening seven under par 64, set off again with a bogey, missing a five-foot putt, but then the 23-year-old Spaniard produced a spectacular birdie three holes later.
His drive finished on a sandy path and he also had to worry about some branches in front him, but Garcia hit the ball to four feet and made the putt.
Up ahead Argentina's Angel Cabrera followed a birdie and two bogeys in his first four holes with a 25-foot eagle putt that lifted him to five under and fourth place.
England's David Carter was soon left wishing he could start all over again. Down in 124th place on the Order of Merit and needing to climb nine places to keep his tour card the former Irish Open champion had a quadruple bogey eight on the 411-yard 10th and slumped to eight over.
Ian Woosnam took six on the same hole and fell away to one under.
