Derry City 0 UCD 2
Bottom-of-the-table UCD recorded their second league victory on the trot with a rousing win over fellow strugglers Derry City at the Brandywell tonight.
Pete Mahon's side, who beat Waterford 3-0 on Monday, are now just two points behind Derry who missed the opportunity to leap-frog Drogheda with a win in front of their own fans.
Alan Gallen gave the visitors the lead after 28 minutes when he latched onto Peter Hutton's poor defensive header to drive home from 12 yards.
Derry thought they had equalised minutes later but Michael Holt's effort was struck out after the striker handled the ball over the line.
Derry battled back after the restart but were left deflated when John Martin finished off a Gallen cross on 50 minutes to put the result beyond doubt.
In the first division, manager Noel King got his Finn Harps reign off to a winning start with a 2-1 win away to Dundalk at Oriel Park.
Keith Carthy had put the home side ahead on 63 minutes but Jonathan Minnock equalised for Harps eight minutes later. Then, with just nine minutes remaining, Tom Mohan steered home the winner.
The win lifts Finn Harps ahead of Bray Wanderers and Dublin City at the top of the table.
