Strong winds wreaked havoc with the final rounds of stage two of the European Tour qualifying school in northern Spain today.

Paddy Gribben, however, was able to complete his final round at the Pals course and qualified second for the final stage at San Roque later this month.

Gusts reaching up to 35mph swept around the Emporda and Peralada courses forcing tournament officials to abandon proceedings for the day.

The players will return to the courses tomorrow morning to resume their final rounds although the weather forecast is not encouraging.

Qualifying school director Mike Stewart said: "We attempted to play at both Emporda and Peralada but the wind was too severe and the balls were moving on the greens.

"The wind did not ease up and as a result we had to abandon play for the day."

At Pals, where play went ahead unhindered, Scotland's David Drysdale led 32 players into next week's gruelling six-round final stage at San Roque and Sotogrande.

The Dunbar professional carded a final round 70 for a 15-under-par total of 277 to finish a shot ahead of Warrenpoint golfer Gribben.

Further down the standings, Nick Faldo protege Nick Dougherty kept alive his hopes of a place among Europe's elite after claiming the 20th qualifying spot.
