Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault in Dublin last night that left a man in critical condition in hospital.

The man in his 30s, with an address in Malahide, was attacked on Eden Quay shortly before 9 p.m. yesterday. The incident took place at at the 77A bus stop.

Officers investigating the attack would like to speak to a teenage boy who told a Dublin Bus Inspector about a fight. They would also like to speak to a man in his late 20s or early 30s, 6 foot tall and wearing a grey jacket. He also spoke to a Dublin Bus Inspector and pointed out a group of three people walking along Eden Quay towards O'Connell Street.

A Garda spokesman said the three may have been responsible for assaulting the victim.

Gardaí are also appealing to two women one of whom was middle aged and one in her late 20s or early 30s who were in the area and boarded a number 50 Bus.

The spokesman added they had been unable to interview the victim of the assault. He also said he had been taken to hospital by ambulance before gardaí arrived on the scene.
