Gardaí in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, say they are keeping an open mind on a gun attack in the town on Wednesday night, in which a man in his 60s suffered serious injuries to his arms and both hands.
The victim was taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Cashel, although his injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening.
The incident happened on Heywood Road in Clonmel around 9 p.m. The man's home was approached by a person who tried unsuccessfully to enter the house and fired a number of shots from a semi-automatic weapon.
It is not known whether the injuries were caused by the bullets or flying glass that was shattered in the attack.
Several other members of the man's family were in the house at the time, although they were unharmed.
The gunman is understood to have fled on a motorcycle, although gardaí believe the assailant may not have been acting alone.
They are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area at the time and who noticed any suspicious activity, including anyone who was wearing a motorcycle helmet.
House-to-house inqui- ries were conducted in the area yesterday, and the scene was examined by Garda ballistic experts.
