Gardai are continuing to hold five men and a woman for questioning in connection with a large heroin smuggling operation.
A former GAA player and a former civil servant were among five men and a woman detained during a series of arrests in Dublin and Co Kildare, following a three-month investigation into what security sources called the biggest heroin trafficking set-up in the state.
Operation Jumbo, which also uncovered nearly a kilo of heroin with an estimated street value of £200,000 and £40,000 in cash, was linked to an operation by police in Liverpool last week, when 19 people were arrested.
The GAA man, who once played for Co Kildare, is understood to have been involved in laundering money raised by the gang in drugs sales.
The leader of the group was thought to have been a man with an address in Crumlin. Others detained were said to include his "financial advisors" and couriers.
Those arrested are being detained at Store Street and Crumlin Garda Stations under the Drugs Trafficking Act and can be held without charged for seven days.
