Gardaí have begun a murder investigation following the death of a man in Co Meath on Saturday

Gardaí have begun a murder investigation following the death of a man in Co Meath on Saturday. Roburtas Kontautas, a 41-year-old Lithuanian, died following what gardaí believe was an assault in a house at St Johnswood Drive, Ashbourne.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in connection with the death and questioned at Trim Garda station, but was released without charge.

A file on the case is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The body of Mr Kontautas was found in the living room of the house at around 6.30am on Saturday. A postmortem subsequently established he had died from a head injury after he was attacked and hit.

It is understood there had been a party in the house and a row broke out among a number of men there.
