Gardai are continuing their investigation into the shooting of a 28-year-old man in an incident in the north Dublin suburb of Donaghmede early this morning.

Gardaí said the man was attacked by two youths, who pulled up on a motorcycle outside a house in St Donagh's Road shortly after midnight.

A number of shots were fired through the front door of the house, hitting the victim in the back and the right arm.

The man's attackers escaped in the direction of Donaghmede. No arrests have yet been made.

The injured man was brought to Beaumont Hospital for treatment, where he is said to be in a serious conditon.

It has been reported this afternoon that gardai are investigating the possibility that the injured man may have been the victim of mistaken identity. However, a Garda spokesman could not confirm this.

A technical examination of the scene has been completed and detectives at Coolock station have set up an incident room. They are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 01-6664200.
