Forty jobs are to be lost in the Donegal Gaeltacht after it was confimred today that a liquidator has been appointed to a circuit board manufacturer in Gweedore.
MDR, in the Gweedor Industrial Estate, employed 200 people in the late 1990s but has been shedding jobs since 2000.
Fine Gael TD for the area, Mr Dinny McGinley said the latest announcement means the once vibrant industrial estate is now "a pale skeleton of its former self".
"From a peak of 1,500 jobs four years ago, the estate now offers work to just 500 people," Mr McGinley said.
He called on the Minister of State with responsibility for the Gaeltacht Mr Eamon Ó Cuiv to declare the area "an unemployment disaster area" and to "immediately implement the development plan" for west Donegal drawn up last year.
