A special meeting of Louth County Council will be told tonight that no changes are needed to the County Development Plan in order to accommodate the controversial Dunleer Area Plan.
A legal opinion on the decision of the council on September 15th last to adopt the plan with two additional zonings has concluded that the plan does not need to be put back on public display.
Tonight's special meeting was called by Fine Gael councillor, Michael O'Dowd, who last night said a number of points needed to be clarified on the issue.
He said the county manager had said the sewerage capacity of Dunleer is 4,000. "Yet we were told at the meeting where this plan was adopted that it was just 3,500."
Cllr O'Dowd said he believed the Planning Act needed to be amended so that major plans like the one for Dunleer can go back on public display.
He said consultation is needed "especially as we have been told by our legal advisors that this plan cannot go back on display."
The plan has been dogged by controversy since it was unveiled nearly two years ago. When the plan was adopted last month it included two major amendments.
