A father of three at the centre of a dispute over his children is to be extradited to England. Mr Bashir Lasebai, a Libyan national, consented in Dublin District Court yesterday to the extradition and will be handed over to the London Metropolitan police force. Mr Lasebai is wanted on foot of 16 extradition warrants to face a number of charges in Britain. He came to the attention of the Irish authorities earlier this year when his ex-wife, Nora, made an appeal for the return of her three children who have been living in Dublin with their father for the past four years.
During yesterday's brief hearing, Mr Lasebai told Judge William Earley that he was very concerned about the degree of media attention which his children were receiving and asked the court to allow the children to travel with him to England. Judge Earley said he had no jurisdiction regarding this matter.
Mr Lasebai told the court that he wanted to return to England as soon as possible to deal with his case.
