An independent postmortem will be carried out on the body of Dwayne Foster, who died in garda custody, the solicitor for the family has confirmed.
According to John Feaheny, the Foster family want an independent examination carried out, after an initial postmortem conducted by the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, is believed to have revealed that Foster died of natural causes.
Gardai say Mr Foster was the chief suspect in the murder of Donna Cleary, who was killed in a shooting incident at the weekend.
Speaking on RTE news this afternoon, Mr Feaheny said he had been instructed to arrange an independent examination, to take place as soon as possible.
"The family would like an independent report into the cause of Dwayne's death," he said.
"The arrangements are ongoing and it will take place very, very quickly."
He said that it would most likely be carried out by a UK pathologist, and if necessary, the results would be made public.
However, Mr Feaheny refused to confirm if the family was dissatisfied with the original postmortem.
